Benefiting Relay for Life Team Andrea

THE REASON BEHIND THE RACE

Today we remember Andrea Boes.  Andrea passed away on March 17, 2009, after a very passionate fight to live.  She was diagnosed with brain cancer in November 2005 when her son Ethan was merely 5 months old.  Andrea underwent seven surgeries and various treatments, including chemotherapy and proton beam radiation, and everyone’s amazement grew each time she traveled home with promising news that undoubtedly beat the odds she faced.  Her soothing smile continued day in and day out regardless of what kind of day she was having herself.  Saying that Andrea was a fighter is a huge understatement!

Serving as team captain, Andrea started a Relay for Life team in 2006:  TEAM ANDREA.  Relay for Life is an event that raises money for the American Cancer Society to help find a cure for cancer.  Andrea also served on Relay for Life’s committee to help raise awareness.  Although Andrea physically lost her battle, her fight continues through family and friends, as TEAM ANDREA stands 45 members strong today.

Andrea fought not only for herself, but mainly she fought for others.  Unselfish, she was always dedicated to those around her. While Andrea did not know she whole-heartedly engaged others, the positive impact that resulted speaks volumes of her. Even those who did not know Andrea very well were awed by her story.  Andrea was God’s servant through her trying times.

Although it seems one could never truly be ready to leave behind all that she did, Andrea was prepared, as her relationship with God was apparent.  The peace and serenity that Andrea displayed throughout her battle are indescribable.  The calmness that overcame her is much to be desired.  Although her battle with cancer ended a year ago, Andrea’s spirit is alive and well in the Washington community.

Andrea lit up our community each and every day that she fought her fight.  Today her memory lives on, and at times, it is unbelievable how the spirit of Andrea surrounds us.  She is a local hero.  Andrea silently taught the true meaning of courage, faith, and love through her actions.  Family and friends will forever remember this wonderful woman.  It seems she left all too soon, but it was ultimately God’s plan.  Andrea’s 29 years were full of life.  In loving memory of our angel Andrea, as she is forever missed yet never forgotten.

Relay for Life TEAM ANDREA sincerely thanks you for your participation in today’s race.  Because of you, we are able to continue fighting Andrea’s battle in hopes of one day fulfilling her dream of finding a cure for cancer.  Please consider running or walking in the Andrea Boes Memorial Walk/Run next March.
